Day 1

Wetland Wilderness

Airport  →  Muthurajawela Wetlands (1 hour drive)

Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport and journey to the Muthurajawela Wetlands, one of Sri Lanka’s most important biodiversity hotspots. Take a boat safari through the mangrove channels spotting water monitors, crocodiles, and over 200 bird species including kingfishers, herons, and eagles. This pristine wetland ecosystem provides the perfect introduction to Sri Lanka’s incredible wildlife diversity with its unique flora and fauna.

Day 2

Leopard Territory

Muthurajawela → Wilpattu (3 hours drive)

Travel to Wilpattu National Park, Sri Lanka’s largest and oldest national park, famous for its high leopard population and diverse ecosystems. Afternoon safari through dense jungle, grasslands, and natural lakes (villus) that give the park its name. Spot leopards, elephants, sloth bears, spotted deer, and diverse bird species while exploring this pristine wilderness that remained untouched for decades during conflict years.

Day 3

Rock Fortress & Elephant Gathering

Wilpattu → Sigiriya (3 hours drive)

Morning departure to the Cultural Triangle and the iconic Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Climb this UNESCO World Heritage Site rising 200 meters above the plains, marvel at the famous Sigiriya Maidens frescoes, and explore the spectacular Water Gardens. Afternoon safari in nearby Minneriya National Park to witness “The Gathering” – one of the largest elephant congregations in Asia where hundreds of elephants gather around the ancient tank.

Day 4

Cultural Heart

Sigiriya → Kandy (2.5 hours drive)

Kandy → Sinharaja Rainforest (3 hours drive)

Travel to Sinharaja Rainforest Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Sri Lanka’s last viable area of primary tropical rainforest. This biodiversity hotspot is home to over half of Sri Lanka’s endemic species. Guided trek through the dense forest canopy spotting endemic birds like the Sri Lankan blue magpie, purple-faced langur monkeys, and countless species of butterflies, reptiles, and rare plants found nowhere else on Earth.

Elephant Paradise

Sinharaja → Udawalawe (2 hours drive)
