Optional whale watching excursion (seasonal March-August) to spot blue whales and sperm whales in the deep waters off the eastern coast. Alternative activities include snorkeling at Pigeon Island National Park with its colorful coral reefs, visiting the hot springs at Kanniya, or simply relaxing on the pristine beaches of Uppuveli and Nilaveli with their crystal-clear waters.

Day 6

Cultural Triangle Wildlife

Trincomalee → Habarana (2.5 hours drive)

Travel to Habarana, the gateway to Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle. Afternoon game drive in Minneriya National Park, famous for “The Gathering” – one of the largest elephant congregations in Asia where hundreds of elephants gather around the ancient Minneriya Tank. This spectacular wildlife phenomenon occurs during the dry season and offers incredible elephant viewing opportunities.

Day 7

Surf Paradise Journey

Habarana → Arugam Bay (4 hours drive)

Full day in Arugam Bay

Enjoy a full day at one of Asia’s premier surfing destinations. Whether you’re an experienced surfer or complete beginner, Arugam Bay offers perfect waves and professional surf schools. Non-surfers can relax on the pristine beach, take a boat safari to nearby Kumana National Park to spot elephants and diverse birdlife, or simply enjoy the relaxed beach town atmosphere with its organic cafes and stunning sunrises.

Day 9

Hill Country Adventure

Arugam Bay → Ella (3.5 hours drive)

Travel from the coastal plains into the misty central highlands to reach charming Ella. This small mountain town is surrounded by hills, tea plantations, and stunning viewpoints. Upon arrival, take an evening stroll through the town and enjoy the cool mountain air after the warm coastal climate of Arugam Bay.

Day 10

Ella Highlights & Kandy

Ella → Kandy (3 hours drive)

Early morning hike to Little Adam’s Peak for breathtaking 360-degree views of the hill country (45-minute easy trek). Visit the iconic Nine Arches Bridge and walk through surrounding jungle paths. Kandy Exploration & Departure

Kandy → Airport (3 hours drive)
